Though the LD-250 now works with Lightning/2000, there are some things you
need to be aware of:
 | Since the LD-250 performs its own analysis on the raw lightning data,
Lightning/2000 cannot determine the stroke type and polarity. However
version 4 of Lightning/2000 still incorporates substantial improvements
that can be used with the LD-250 hardware. |
 | With the advent of v4.6 of Lightning/2000, we have the ability to
determine when individual lightning flashes are nearby. This means
more accurate and timely alarms when a storm is approaching. It also
means that, for each of these nearby flashes, we can say with certainty that
a cloud-to-ground flash has occurred, so the symbol for a CG flash will be
plotted rather than the generic "unknown" symbol. |
 | Because of the serial connection, the maximum number of strokes per minute
detectable with the LD-250 will be less than with the StormTracker.
However, this will not normally affect the accuracy. |
It is our recommendation, that if you do not require a stand-alone portable
lightning detection unit, to purchase the StormTracker card instead of the
LD-250. This recommendation is based not only on the difference in
performance between the 2 units, but also because of the lower price of the
StormTracker.
